Makinde Backs Super Eagles Match in Ibadan, Seeks Sport Reforms


Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed readiness to provide the necessary facilities to host a Super Eagles match at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan. 

‎The Governor made this known while declaring open the 2025 Annual General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) held in Ibadan.

‎Governor Makinde commended the NFF leadership for its transparency in managing the affairs of the federation and advocated for a single term for sports administrators in Nigeria.

‎Earlier, the NFF Chairman, Ibrahim Gusau, assured the Governor that the federation would ensure the Nigerian national team plays a match in Oyo State before 2027 to appreciate his efforts in promoting sports. 

‎Gusau also commended the Governor for providing an enabling environment for the event and hosting the Nigeria Under-20 girls' World Cup qualifier match against Rwanda.

‎In a goodwill message, former NFF President Amaju Pinnick urged sports administrators to support the vision of their leaders.

‎The event was attended by FIFA observers Hamed Haraz and Lyrique Dupiesis, CAF representative Nadim Magdy, WAFU Executive Director Philippe Tchere, and other football stakeholders in Nigeria.
